LEROY GREENE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY HELD MAY 9th, 2009!

On May 9, 2009, RMSC Contractors (Center Point & Cache Creek Lodge), and their Parolee participants helped out at the School Clean up at Leroy Greene MS in the Natomas Unified School District of Sacramento.  The parolee participants helped plant 21 trees around the campus, paint,  hang basketball hoops, spread mulch, and  cleaned up at Orchard Park , located next to the school.  Councilman Ray Tretheway from District 1 was on hand as well. This event was coordinated by the City of Sacramento and the Natomas School District . We had over 40 parolee participants on hand and the coordinators were very appreciative.  Each participant was fed a pancake breakfast and BBQ lunch prepared by local restaurant ower of the  49er Truck Stop located off West El Camino and hwy 80.  In addition each participant was given a tee shirt and will also receive a certificate of appreciation from the City of Sacramento. Working with local PTAs and Parent Organizations throughout Natomas, a joint bake sale was held to raise money for homeless children. One in every ten children in our schools are considered homeless. We raised these funds to pay for school supplies, shoes, clothing, hygiene products and food for these kids. The Natomas Schools Foundation helped sponsor the event and donated their proceeds.

DISTRICT-WIDE SCIENCE FAIR HELD MARCH 12th, 2009!

With a grant from the Sacramento River Cats, we sponsored a Science and Engineering Fair to foster a spirit of innovation among students and educators. This event is open to ALL students in the Natomas Unified School District.

The Science Fair process yields mature, self-confident, skilled and competitive young leaders with career goals AND the preparation, discipline and drive to attain them. The Science Fair was held at H. Allen Hight Learning Center on Thursday, March 12th and the Natomas Schools Foundation will continue beyond that date to raise money to purchase additional science equipment for all our district schools.

WE ARE BRINGING MUSIC BACK!

The Natomas Schools Foundation sponsored a FREE concert to Natomas families on September 28th to kick off our "Bring Music Back" program. We are committed to this project for so many reasons. Research studies have shown that music in education improves school attendance, self-esteem, self-discipline, early cognitive development, creativity and spatial reasoning skills. In addition, students who play an instrument have also demonstrated accelerated math and reading abilities, higher SAT scores, and builds overall brainpower. As if these weren't reasons enough, studies go further to show that students involved in music are less likely to be involved in gangs, drugs or use of alcohol. Moreover, children ENJOY it!

We are accepting donations from businesses, individuals and groups to purchase sets of instruments for each of our elementary schools. Donations in ANY amount are welcomed and appreciated!

April 21, 2008

Dear Monty Maxwell, NSF President:

Thank you so much for your $500 donation to our HOSTS program at Bannon Creek Elementary. The money will be used to provide learning materials for our HOSTS students. Your generous donation will go a long way toward helping many students to succeed.

Sincerely,

Loy Baxter
HOSTS Coordinator

NOTE: The Natomas Schools Foundation donated $500 to EVERY school in the Natomas Unified School District to support each HOSTS Learning Coordinator's individual programs.

Reading is fun, and these kids know it. Students at American Lakes Elementary School thanked Michael Cannon of EFPM for his donation of $3000 to the school's library. Cannon served as the project manager for the school's recent reconstruction.

A new set of reference materials and at least 20 sets of the most requested reading series were purchased with the donation.

Mentor David Rea works with a student as part of the new Help One Student To Succeed program under way at all Natomas Unified School District school sites.

The HOSTS program matches the business community, parents, peers and all residential community members with students in grades 1-12 who need help in reading and math. Under the guidance of teacher coordinators, the mentors devote one hour weekly to tutoring at a HOSTS campus learning center. The Natomas Schools Foundation is the sponsor of the program.
